French diplomas

DELF and DALF (Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française et Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française)

The DELF and DALF are internationally recognised French proficiency examinations based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and are administered and awarded by the CIEP (the international branch of the French Ministry of Education). The Institut français is the national coordination centre for DELF-DALF exams in the UK, and is also the main examination centre in the country.
As required by the CIEP, we offer 3 exam sessions per year, typically held in January, March and June.

TCF French Language Test (Test de Connaissance du Français)

Based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the TCF is a two-part test, comprising multiple choice questions followed by optional written and oral tests. The score obtained reflects the candidate's knowledge of the French language and is not a pass or fail exam but rather an evaluation of the candidates’ level at a given time. This test does not require specific training and can be taken at several different times during the year at the Institut Français. The TCF is typically used for Insead, Universities and Science Po admission.
The TCF is, however, not a diploma, and is valid for two years from the date of awarding.
